This interactive workshop will explore the opportunities and challenges parents face when supporting their child with learning differences in a school environment.
- Understand your child as a learner
- Advocate for your child in school
- Provide ongoing support that will promote independence
- Work with an individualised education plan (IEP)
- Integrate with the school curriculum
- Develop and strengthen the home and school partnership
Speaker: Kristel Solomon-Saleem
Kristel is Director of Learner Support at Hong Kong Academy. She graduated from Temple University with degrees in Elementary and Special Education, and a Masters in Educational Psychology. Kristel’s passion for teaching and learning has led her to work closely with the Next Frontier Inclusion as a workshop leader and Design Team Support member. Workshops include: Special Education Needs in Asia Conference (SENIA), Eastern Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS), Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). Kristel has contributed to the IB Guidelines for Inclusive Education and recently co-presented a 4-day course with Education Across Frontiers (EAF) in Italy on collaboration and inclusion with a focus on English Language and Learner Support.
