SENSORY INTEGRATION THERAPY

Category:
1.5 - 3 Years/ 3 - 6 Years/ Individual Therapies/ Sensory Skills/

Sensory integration refers to the way our brains receive messages from the senses and turn them into appropriate responses. Some children’s behaviour and motor control are affected by the way they receive and interpret sensations from their environment. This therapy uses a child-led approach. Through active participation from your child, the activities are designed to help them understand and respond more appropriately to sensory input.

One-on-one sensory integration clinic sessions are for children aged between two and six years old.  Children do not have to be currently enrolled in our programmes to schedule these sessions.

The therapy focuses on improving the child’s ability to effectively use all the senses to interpret signals from the environment. These senses include:

  • Tactile – input relating to touch.
  • Auditory – input relating to sounds.
  • Oral – input relating to the mouth.
  • Olfactory – input relating to smell.
  • Visual – input relating to sight.
  • Proprioceptive – the sense of ‘position’; input from the muscles and joints about body position, weight, pressure, stretch, movement and changes in position.
  • Vestibular – the sense of movement; input from the inner ear about equilibrium, gravitational changes, movement experiences and position in space.
