Numicon is a multi-sensory approach to mathematics that uses structured apparatus, which is designed to help children understand number ideas and number relationships that, are essential for success in maths.
The Numcion Primary group provides children, especially those who are weak in maths, with opportunities to understand, achieve and enjoy mathematics.
The Numicon Maths Primary Group:
- Uses a variety of structured apparatus such as Numicon shapes, number rods, pegs, counters and visuals to explore and communicate number concepts.
- Teaches children fluent recall.
- Uses shapes and patterns to clearly illustrate relationships between numbers and how we use them.
- Uses ‘low threshold’ and ‘high ceiling’ activities to provide the right level of challenge and enable differentiation within the same topic.
It is highly recommended that children complete the Numicon Diagnostic Assessment before starting the programme.
