Presentation: Happy Parents and Children from the Inside Out Helping our children to become happy and confident learners using HANDLE®
25 April 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm HKT
HKD50The rigorous demands of the schooling system in Hong Kong has lead to an institutionalised practice of putting huge pressures on our children to keep pace with their classmates. The emphasis on doing voluminous amounts of homework and getting support from tutors and tutor groups that is put upon our children is immense and is often not the best way in which we can support them to improve and thrive at school. An alternative approach taken by parents and teachers is to give excuses for why children don’t need to perform and labelling them with deficiencies; but going no further to give them the support they need to improve. At the end of the day, although our schooling system can produce students who are rigorously drilled , and it can put them up in the top echelons of students internationally, this often produces highly stressed and intensely unhappy children.
Often, when a child is identified as having a learning deficiency, the educational system’s response is to medicate the child in order to control his/her symptoms and/or disruptive behaviours, and to continue to push the child through the main-stream class and curriculum. However, no action is taken to try to understand and address the underlying cause of the child’s learning challenges. This is where HANDLE®, the Holistic Approach to Neuro-Development and Learning Efficiency, gives an alternative path for parents who want to support their children and nurture their development, so that they may strengthen their weaknesses and overcome their learning challenges, from the inside out.
Our nervous systems control every part of our daily life, from breathing and running to helping us memorise facts for an exam. Having an efficiently functioning nervous system is a foundation for allowing our children to be able to perform at school and to be able to access all parts of the educational curriculum.
However, when parts of the nervous system are not functioning efficiently, children may experience challenges in learning, which may result in behaviours which the teacher perceives as being disruptive, and/or those which the teacher perceives as being caused by low intelligence.
HANDLE® supports individuals experiencing the symptoms of conditions such as ADD/ADHD, Autism, Brain Injuries, Learning Difficulties and Tourette Syndrome. This presentation is a fascinating introduction into better understanding your children, and a starting point to developing a support system for their challenges, helping them become confident and happy learners.
