Guide to Managing Challenging Behaviours
30 April 2018 @ 8:15 am - 4:45 pm HKTHKD2800
The Guide to Managing Challenging Behaviours training involves an introduction to broad-spectrum behaviour analysis in the form of the Pyramid Approach to Education. Discussion focuses on the importance of addressing students’ skill deficits prior to or simultaneously with addressing behaviour excess or other unwanted behaviour. Other key elements of the training include the description and the design of effective educational settings that emphasise the use of systematic reinforcement. The link between functional activities, communication training and the reduction of unwanted behaviour is explored. In addition, issues related to teaching skills are addressed. This workshop teaches participants to determine and define unwanted behaviour targeted for intervention. Participants are assisted with understanding the functional assessment of behaviour, and the selection and teaching of alternative responses to replace unwanted behaviour. Participants are exposed to antecedent strategies designed to reduce unwanted behaviour as well as differential reinforcement procedures and consequence based strategies. Finally, issues related to the evaluation and monitoring of behaviour plans are discussed.
What you will learn:
- how to operationally define behaviour
- how to identify and conduct a functional assessment
- how to select and teach functionally equivalent behaviour to unwanted behaviour
- how to identify consequence based strategies for reducing unwanted behaviour
- how to measure, assess, and maintain the efficacy of behaviour intervention
