2-day Course on “Clinical Assessment and Practical Interventions for Praxis: From Ideation to Execution” (CA-16A-03)
1 May 2016 @ 9:15 am - 2 May 2016 @ 5:30 pm HKT
HKD3700Praxis (motor planning) is the ability to conceive, organise, and carry out a sequence of unfamiliar actions. Praxis problems in children with sensory integration deficits (including those with ASD) and their impact on functional performance have always been neglected. Additionally, difficulties in generating ideas and plans for actions are common problems in children with sensory integration and praxis deficits. These ideational problems can be particularly difficult to treat.
Contents & Objectives:
- an overview of the components of praxis
- clinical assessment and intervention of praxis problems in children using a sensory integration frame of reference
- identifying ideation, motor planning, sequencing, bilateral coordination and projected action sequence problems within a sensory integration treatment model
- practical intervention strategies using both top-down and bottom-up approaches
Upon completion of the programme, participants can:
- describe underlying neural and sensory mechanisms of various praxis dysfunctions
- observe, assess and differentiate praxis dysfunctions from ideation to execution
- apply top-down and bottom-up treatment principles to different praxis problems
- identify the ways various praxis problems impact on functional performance
- identify strategies and treatment plan for improving performance
